Take two Americans. Mix with much of the team that made Hammer Horror
a household name. Add great actors like Sir Ralph Richardson, Terence
Stamp, Robert Vaughn, Robert Shaw, David Warner, Donald Sutherland,
Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. You will have the film company which
kept Shepperton Studios going and the British film industry alive when
it was dying in the 1970s. You will have Amicus Productions.
Amicus – meaning “friend”. But owners Milton Subotsky
and Max J. Rosenberg ironically ended up hating each after making over
20 films together, and then tried to sue each other out of business.
Amicus – as important to British film as Hammer ever was, but
their films are darker. They were masters at the portmanteau (anthology)
movie. They produced classic sci-fi, horror, psychological thrillers
and fantasies, and became an iconic name in horror movie history.
Amicus – With hundreds of rare photographs, horror fans’
will need to own this collectible book. The full, uncensored history
is coming soon!
